Most Important Part of Any Ebay Auction

Hello Folks

I recently asked a few people what they thought the most important part of an eBay auction was…

Some said having a great photograph.

Others said having a good honest description.

Some people said both!

Now yes, I do agree that a photograph or ecover design is very important.

I also agree that the auction description must be honest, factual and attention grabbing.

(I will actually post some tips on eBay auction descriptions next week).

But if you think about it, if you have a bad auction title, then no one will ever see your brilliant descriptions or your amazing photographs, ecovers etc etc.

So the Ebay Auction Title is the most important part!

If you have no relevant keywords, your item will probably never be found!

You have just 55 characters or less to get the most from your eBay title.

That does not give you room for many words now does it?

That’s why you have to make sure that every single word in your auction title is working for you and not against you.

A really simple way to find hot keywords for ebay auction titles is to put yourself in the buyer’s shoes.

Simply imagine you are on eBay searching for the item that you are selling, what words would you search on?

These search words are the words you want to be using in your eBay title description.

eBay actually has two tools that you can use with regard to keyword research for auction titles.

The first tool is free and is the eBay Advanced Search Feature.

I have a post on my old blog which will help you understand this function more, but basically you can access a list of all similar products that have recently ended on eBay.

This is great because you can see which similar items sold, and use the same keywords that those ebay sellers have used in their auction titles.

Simply go through the ended items and write down a list of all the common words you see appearing in the titles then implement them into your auction title.

To find out how to use eBay’s Advanced Search function see this post on my old blog:

eBay Advanced Search Function

I will like to say that on my old blog post I say that the advanced search function can be accessed at the top right hand side of any eBay page, but as eBay have recently revamped their pages, advanced search can now be found at the top middle of any ebay page.

Ok, the next tool ebay provides is eBay Marketplace Research, I have used this on several occasions but you do have to pay for it.

However, you can choose to purchase 2 days access, a basic monthly subscription or a pro monthly subscription, cost varies on which you choose.

Using eBay Marketplace Research will help you discover more about which terms or words people are actually searching on eBay for in relation to your product / item.

I think it is only about £1.99 or approx $4 for 2 days access so give it a try and see what you think, just visit “My Ebay” and look down the left hand side for the option “Subscriptions”, or search eBay’s Help Pages.

Although you are limited to 55 characters or less in an eBay Auction Title, don’t worry!

You can just list the same item twice but with two different auction titles, in fact this is actually a great idea to apply to all your ebay auctions, then if you use the invisible counter that ebay allows, you can check which title is drawing the most views, then ditch the title that draws less views.

It’s just like split-testing.

If you keep revising your ebay auction titles in this way, then eventually you will have the best keywords that draw the most traffic to your eBay auctions or listings.

I would like to add that you should never be tempted to use keywords not relevant to your product, I am sure you have seen titles that say…

“Looks Like Burberry”

“The Same as an Apple Ipod”

This is considered as keyword spamming and can end up with your eBay account being suspended so just don’t do it.

Well I hope this blog post has gave you some food for thought on your ebay auction titles and that very soon all your titles will be bringing in hoardes of ebayers to your auctions!
